Cochrane-Fountain City's girls add a Division 3 4x800 meet record
LA CROSSE — Cochrane-Fountain City's distance program had a weekend to remember, and it ended with a record.
Macy Hunger, Kinley Arneson, Addy Duellman and Paxtyn Duellman ran 9:21.29 to win the Division 3 girls' 4x800 relay at the WIAA State Championships — a meet record — finishing nearly 10 seconds clear of Kohler (9:30.94).
The relay leaned on a pair of sisters who had already proven themselves over the open mile. Addy Duellman won the Division 3 1,600 outright in 4:55.52, and Paxtyn Duellman ran right behind the leaders in the same race, placing fourth in 5:01.13. Put two runners of that quality on one 4x800 — alongside Hunger and Arneson — and a record becomes possible.
A small-school distance group, a near-10-second winning margin, and the Duellman sisters in the middle of it. Cochrane-Fountain City leaves La Crosse with the Division 3 4x800 meet record.
