Your kid's coach sends team announcements through WI Athlete. Here's what you need to know.

Why am I getting these emails?

Your coach added your email to the team roster on WI Athlete so they can send you practice updates, meet info, fundraisers, and other team communications. Same purpose as Remind or BAND — just integrated with the team page where your kid's results already live.

How do I stop getting emails?

Two ways:

  1. Unsubscribe linkat the bottom of any team email. One click — you're out for that team. (If you have kids on multiple teams, you stay subscribed to the other teams unless you unsubscribe from each separately.)
  2. /parents/preferences — sign in and toggle off individual categories or pause emails entirely for a few days (vacation mode).

Can my kid message the coach directly?

Depends on age:

  • Under 13:No. Federal law (COPPA) requires we keep under-13s off the platform. You'll get the messages and can pass them along.
  • 13-15:Yes, but you (the parent) are automatically CC'd on every coach-to-kid message.
  • 16+: Yes, with no parent CC required by default. If you want to keep CC on, enable that on your preferences page.

Are my emails private?

Yes.

  • Replies to a coach's announcement go only to the coach — other parents don't see them.
  • Your email is visible to your coach but not to other parents on the team.
  • We never share your contact info outside the platform.

What about my kid's data?

We don't share educational records (grades, transcripts, test scores) in any message. Coaches type their own message bodies; we never auto-inject student records. This is the FERPA boundary we enforce.

Public meet results (times, places, PRs) are public anyway — those show up on the team page and may be referenced in announcements.

How many emails will I get?

Rate-limited to:

  • 5 broadcast announcements per team per day
  • 50 direct messages per coach per day

In practice you'll see 1-3 emails/week. If a coach is over-emailing, set yourself to "weekly digest" frequency on your preferences page — we batch everything into a single Sunday email.

What if a coach sends something inappropriate?

  • Reply to the email or contact your AD/school directly.
  • Unsubscribe from that team via the link at the bottom of the email.
  • Email support@wiathlete.com to report abuse — every announcement is logged in our audit system.

I forgot my password.

Sign-in page → "Forgot password" link. We email a magic link.
